Mankirt Aulakh, Mixsingh..!

I kowtow to the admirable college,
Where I completed my studies.

Where, siding your sister-in-law (referring to his girlfriend),
I fought with the lecturers.

My girlfriend is studying for a bachelor’s degree,
While my 5-7 opponents are doing their masters.

A few good days of college life are hard to forget.
Fortunately, I could spend five years studying at college.

All my friends were idle then.
We all used to catch up at the old man’s tea stall.

We used to borrow a scooter from Jeeta,
Who doesn’t realize if it’s day or night while drinking.

Friends have separated over time,
And the old man is no more, too.
The place we used to gather,
The tea-stall, has been closed.

A few days spent with friends at college are hard to forget.
But I was fortunate enough to spend five years there.

Some of my friends have become judges and lawyers,
Some are still serving free water.

The ones married are adoring their children,
But unmarried like me are roaming carefree in Chandigarh.

Mankirt kowtows to the college each time he passes by.
Somebody please, build a time machine for me.

A mad girl studied with me, who I used to adore.
You could ask my friends how much I loved her then.

My skin tone was dark while she looked like a glowing moon.
Our match was strong like the Sutlej dam.

The one (referring to the girl) who left my village,
I (poet – Singga) can never forget her.
She has spoiled all the desires we had in this life.
